The British Suzuki Institute
Cello workshop at the Pimlico Academy
On Sunday June 25th from 1.30 – 5.30pm: cello workshop at the Pimlico Academy SW1V. As usual, the faculty includes great teachers, providing a rare opportunity to work with some from abroad.
Anders Gron from Denmark, who was the teacher trainer on the very first Suzuki teacher training course in the UK and who still runs his own courses in Denmark. He has made a number of solo recordings.
Carol Bez, an American living Switzerland who has taught Suzuki cello in Germany for the past 25 years.
Susanne Beer, who has a very fine playing career, not only as co-principal cellist in the LPO but with many other groups and ensembles.
Margaret Omonyi, who works with children in many different aspects of musicianship – drumming, singing, theory, movement, composition etc.
This workshop is open to all levels apart from pre-Twinkle, so the precise format of the afternoon is unknown until the applications are in! The general plan, however, is to mix group lessons and masterclasses with musicianship sessions and for as many participants as possible to experience as many teachers as possible. At the end of the afternoon, there will be a short concert, to include the most advanced children present. Notice of inclusion will be given!
Organiser: Angela East, cellist in the ensemble Red Priest and Suzuki teacher of over 30 years. This year I will allow the other fine teachers to take most of the classes so that I can take charge of the organisation.
The cost will be £45 per child (LSG members) or £55 (non-LSG members) but there will be a £5 discount if you register before June 2nd. (£40/£50).
In order to start promptly on the day with the minimum of administration, please pay in advance by bank transfer. The details are available on the cello forum.
Please then inform me by email: firstname.lastname@example.org. I will acknowledge receipt.
Refreshments should be available at the café in the Academy and it is possible to park on Sundays.
There are workshops and cello classes all through the year, in particular at Easter and in the summer. British Suzuki Institute members are invited to take part as players or just as observers. The cello classes are in London, outside London and also abroad. If you are interested please visit the British Suzuki Institute website and speak to your cello teacher:
Learning with the Suzuki method requests to become a member of either the BSI (British Suzuki Institute) or the LSG (London Suzuki Group). This membership is obligatory and has to be in place before the first lesson (after the observation period). It offers the child a wide range of holiday classes, workshops and events. (To sign up go to: http://londonsuzukigroup.co.uk/membership/ or call 020 3176 4170.) You can pay by direct bedit or paypal.
