The Susanne Beer Cello Corner Foundation Prize Winners at Concert Corner 

22 September 2021: Sonny Buether (cello) performed moderato from Haydn Concert in C Major with the Fitzwilliam Quartet at Candid Arts Gallery, Islington.

20 November 2021: Daphne Shlomowitz (cello) performed Tarantella by Squire at St. James' Church, Islington. This was followed by a performance br Greenwich Trio.

Sunday 03 October 2021 at Conway Hall: Elizaveta Lessoun and Susanne's Lockey Hill cello

Elizaveta Lessoun performed Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso Op 62 at Conway Hall Sunday Concerts, alongside the Greenwich Piano Trio, on October 3rd 2021.

 

Elizaveta is borrowing the Foundation's Lockey Hill cello (c.1780). It is the cello that Susanne played on while she was co-principal cellist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Elizaveta is from Belarus, and studies with Melissa Phelps at the Royal College of Music in London. You can hear her performance on The Cello Corner YouTube Channel.

Foundation Fundraiser Concert, June 2021

On Sunday 27 June, 2021 there was a fundraiser concert for the Susanne Beer Cello Corner Foundation with the Fitzwillian Quartet and young cellists of The Cello Corner. Fitzwilliam String Quartet performed Haydn's Quartet Op 76 No 2 'Fifths' and Schumann's Quartet in F major Op 41 No 2. Our talented young performers, some accompanied by the FSQ, were: Lotte Shlomowitz: Prayer by Bloch;  Atticus Larard: Madrigal by Squire; Emily Elliott: Rondo by Boccherini; Cello Ensemble: Vivaldi Double Concerto & Latin Nites.

The Susanne Beer Cello Corner Prize at North London Festival, May 2021

Young cellist Inez Karlsson was chosen by Robert Max as the winner of The The Susanne Beer Cello Corner Foundation Prize at the 2021 North London Festival of Music, Speech and Drama.

 

We are happy to share the news that Susanne Beer's former students Daphne and Lotte Shlomowitz, and Sonny Buether also won top prizes at the North London Festival.  

Elizaveta Lessoun and Susanne's Lockey Hill cello, October 2020

In October 2020, Elizaveta Lessoun was chosen as the recipient of a three-year loan of Susanne Beer's Lockey Hill cello (c.1780). It is the cello that Susanne played on while she was co-principal cellist of the LPO. Elizaveta is from Belarus and she studies with Melissa Phelps at the Royal College of Music in London. 

Young Cellists at Conway Hall Sunday Concerts, 2020

Three young cellists who auditioned for the Lockey Hill cello opened Conway Hall Sunday Concerts on November 1st, 29th and December 13th, 2020. Doraly Gill performed a movement of Elgar's concerto, Elizaveta Lessoun performed Massenet's 'Elegy' plus Davydov's 'At the Fountain.' Supanee Sonchaiwanich performed the first movement of Brahms' F major Sonata. 

LPO Concert in Memory of Susanne Beer, March 2020

The London Philharmonic Orchestra dedicated a concert to Susanne Beer on 11 March 2020: Anne-Sophie Mutter (violin), Khatia Buniatishvili (piano) and Pablo Ferrández (cello), Robin Ticciati (conductor) at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre. The program was Beethoven's Triple Concerto and Mahler's Symphony No 1

Susanne’s debut solo album ‘Cello Diverse’ (with pianist Gareth Hancock) contains music by Stravinsky, Brahms and Debussy and a beautiful arrangement of Ennio Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe. For every copy bought direct from the Divine Art Records web store (CD or digital) during 2020, Divine Art Records will make a donation to The Susanne Beer Cello Corner Foundation.
